Background: Tujijenge, meaning “let’s build ourselves” in Swahili, was founded in April 2006 by a team of highly experienced microfinance professionals. Tujijenge currently serves clients in the urban and semi-urban areas of Dar es Salaam.
Leadership:Led by Executive Director Felistas Coutinho and Managing Director Winnie Terry, Tujijenge has a strong track record of growth, increasing its outreach by nearly 60% in 2008. Aggressive growth plans over the next three years will see Tujijenge expand into four new semi-urban regions and reach 47,000 poor clients by 2012.
Product offerings and clientele: Tujijenge currently serves clientele in primarily urban Dar es Salaam with a group lending product. They are also experimenting with mobile banking to recognize operational efficiencies in servicing their new individual lending product.
