Background: MokshaYug Access (MYA) is a rural infrastructure and services company with a primary focus on microfinance. It strives to offer more products per client in order to comprehensively meet more household financial needs to deepen its reach. It emphasizes microfinance as a distribution channel. MYA wants to be “a one-stop shop” for financial services in the regions it serves. MYA will offer both financial and non-financial services on a profitable basis, with operational and financial separation between the two service providers. It envisions an innovative hub-and-spoke model--with branches and service-outlets close to clients--to deliver non-financial products through its self-help group (SHG) microfinance channel.
Leadership: MokshaYug Access is led by CEO and Founder Harsha Moily.
The microfinance expertise of Unitus and their ability to integrate it into innovative business models will help MYA develop a supply chain model that leverages microfinance to vastly improve the livelihoods of India’s rural poor. MYA is delighted to be a Unitus partner.
Product offerings and clientele: MYA is currently focused on self-help groups, with plans to offer a variety of "value-added services" including microinsurance, savings, health care, dairy farming, employment, agribusiness, e-governance, telecommunications, and consumer goods to name a few.
Highlights and growth strategy: MYA currently provides savings, loans, and insurance services to more than 24,000 poor clients in rural areas of Karnataka. In addition to life and health insurance, MYA offers livestock and goat insurance to marginalized farmers, helping ensure they don’t lose critical income should an animal become ill. MYA has also generated additional economic opportunity for local entrepreneurs, most recently working with India’s leading incense maker to aggregate and supply raw materials at lower rates–increasing its clients’ profits by 60 percent. Additionally, MYA is building a comprehensive supply chain model that it will franchise this throughout India to provide rural households with additional products and services.
